Why NOT Think Big?

I love the picture in this graphic! Obviously, that's not Donald Trump and Donald Trump is no longer a kid. HOWEVER, that is the mindset that most - if not all - of us had when we WERE just kids.

Think back (you can still do that, right?) to when you were young and your imagination was your friend! Whatever you imagined, you could actually "see" with your "minds eye" and you could easily see YOURSELF doing in that picture! You may have even "dressed up" for the part (even if you didn't have what you needed to actually wear the right stuff!).

Did any of you pretend to fly and even wore a cape made out of a bed sheet, a towel or anything else you could get your hands on? Could you actually fly? NO! But did that stop you from "seeing" yourself flying all over the world?

Did any of you ever pretend to ride a horse with nothing but an old broom stick or mop handle as your "horse"? Were you actually riding a horse? NO! But did that stop you from "seeing" yourself riding all around the "Wild, Wild, West"?

Did any of you ever get in a box and imagine....

Well, what DID you imagine in that box? Perhaps it was a cabin out in the woods or maybe a race car! Maybe you saw yourself in a cave of some sort or, perhaps, it was a boat and you were sailing the high seas!

With our imagination, we had NO LIMITS on what we could do, where we could go and even who it was that we could be!

NO LIMITS!

So, what happened?

We now allow the smallest set back to "shut us down".

Hey, if you learned to ride a bicycle as a kid, did you stop after your first crash? Notice I didn't ask IF you crashed, I asked if you stopped AFTER your first crash.

I can answer that for you due to the fact that I first said, "if you learned to ride a bicycle...". You see, if you learned to ride a bicycle then you DID crash and, likely, more than once!

WHY? Because your DESIRE to ride that bike was GREATER than your FEAR of crashing!

Do a little research on Donald Trump. Who cares if you like him or not? It has NOTHING to do with the fact that he overcame some serious setbacks in 1991 and, instead of folding and giving up, he kept "thinking big' and continued to BE big in the business world.

Yes, friend, DARE TO DREAM BIG AGAIN - just as we talked about in yesterday's article. Don't give up and don't stop THINKING BIG!

And, as you do so, always be sure to...

Hangin' Around Like a Lost Pup?

What you see in the picture above is a shirt that my wife got for me a couple of years ago (maybe even three?) for Father's Day. Actually, it's one of two.

Why do I have a picture of the front of a shirt that my wife got for me a few years ago posted here? Because it is almost EXACTLY the same picture that I have used for our new travel business as a "cover photo" on our Facebook page!

"Oh, o.k.", you say but, let me tell you more. This whole "beach" scene that you see on the shirt and, if you go to the FB page that I talked about, is something that has been "hangin' around like a lost pup" for probably 10 years or so.

That's right, this type of picture has been my "dream image" for a very long time. It keeps popping up all over the place reminding me of this fact. On my other computer (where I do the mixing for my podcast) is a similar scene that I see nearly every day yet, it just "popped out" at me the other day. I can even go back and find images from, like I said, 10 years or so ago, and find the same type of picture.

The picture that I posted in yesterday's article from one of our vacations back in 2002 is one of my favorite all-time pictures. BEACH PICTURE!

Little did I or my wife know that, when she bought me this shirt (I actually picked it out and told her that would be a good gift) that we would now be promoting this type of picture as a REALITY!

Why do I bring all of this up? Because, friend, I want to ask you: WHAT IS YOUR DREAM IMAGE and WHERE HAS IT GONE?

Maybe you are right on track with it and getting closer to achieving it every day. Maybe you HAVE already achieved it and you are celebrating life due to that fact. But maybe, just maybe, you have lost your focus and allowed the weight of the world to cause you to put that "dream image" aside and pile a bunch of other stuff on top of it to where you don't even know it's there anymore.

Have YOU been getting little "pop up" reminders that it's still there? Have you ignored those reminders with the thought of, "Nah, it's just not going to happen"?

Have you ever actually had a lost pup hang around your house before? THEY DON'T GO AWAY SO EASILY! Maybe your "dream image" is not giving up so easily either, friend.

Perhaps you should allow yourself the privilege of opening your eyes, ears and mind to how many times this "lost pup" DOES actually "pop up" to remind you of what you once longed for and decided to strive for.

Allow that for yourself and, friend, you will then find yourself beginning to dream again and even beginning to believe that it IS possible after all.

Please be sure to check out our Facebook travel page and, while you're at it, "LIKE" it and leave a comment. You may even be entered into a contest to actually WIN a vacation on us. Shoot, you can even go there and post YOUR "dream image" if you'd like. Or, if you prefer, you can post it on my Future You University Facebook page.

Either way, stop ignoring that lost pup, would ya', and begin to dream and live once again.

Until next time, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Inspire Others

We talked about leaders vs. followers in the last blog entry and, today, we continue with some more thoughts on leaders.

John Quincy Adams sums it up pretty well, wouldn't you agree?

Just because people "follow" you doesn't make you a leader! Yes, it's true in our current world of social media but it also applies in actual, physical situations.

You may be a boss that has many people follow your instructions but, friend, that does NOT make you a leader. It makes you a boss.

Can you be a boss AND a leader at the same time? Sure you can...just re-read the graphic above and answer that question for yourself.

I had a "boss" not too long ago that actually told a group of new employees one day that he didn't care about them. It was really quite confusing because in one breath he would talk about how much this company would take care of their employees and then, in the next breath, he said, "I don't care about you. I don't care anything at all about you. I pay - you do!"

Guess what? He didn't get much - if any - respect from his employees. He did NOTHING to inspire and, in big part due to his actions, this company has several billboards that ALWAYS indicate that this company is hiring.

You know why? No one is staying!

Here's the kicker: there ARE some leaders that work there IN SPITE OF this guy at the helm. They actually DO inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. These leaders are not afraid to encourage those that listen to step away from this job that will bring in "decent" wages and take on bigger and more rewarding challenges.

Again, having followers does NOT make you a leader.

Who are YOU following? Are you being inspired?

And you, Mr. "Leader" (or so you may think)....do you fit the criteria set at the beginning of this article today by Mr. Adams?

If not, why not make a change and see what is possible in YOUR life and in the lives of those that you can lead?

It's up to you. It's your choice.

Here's to those that actually LEAD and INSPIRE....thank you.

For each of us along the journey, always remember to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

DARE TO DREAM!

This is just a little teaser to get you thinking about the discussion and challenge to come...

11.20.12

DREAM...I dare you! Take a moment and write those things down that fit in the category, "WHAT IF?" and then DARE TO DREAM! Keep up with this - take steps to the point that you can then write down the fact that your "WHAT IF?" has changed over to, "IT IS!"

My wife and I came up with this idea today and PUT IT DOWN ON PAPER...awesome!

Now comes putting the "print into practice"!
