Einstein on Mistakes

So, would you consider Albert Einstein a smart man? SURE YOU WOULD!

Well, apparently he was smart in a LOT of areas, including this one because what he says is absolutely TRUE.

Yet, when you think about it, it's actually rather interesting. Why? Because anyone that never tries anything new not only AVOIDS mistakes (as discussed in the graphic above) but, actually, makes a HUGE mistake by that very action (or lack thereof)!

I know, I know, some of your heads are just spinning right now. :)

Sure, if one wants to avoid mistakes and even criticism, one might choose to do NOTHING. Yet, at the same time, they make a HUGE mistake in that way of thinking and, oftentimes, face criticism for doing nothing!

So, the way I see it is like this: if you're going to make a mistake and get criticized ANYWAY, why not make mistakes and face criticism for actually DOING something?

I think me and ol' Albert would have had a good discussion on this one! Now, as soon as he started talking about math.....that's a whole other story!

And, by the way, the podcast (links below) is completely different than what I just put in this article so be sure to check it out, o.k.?

Go for it, friend. Get out there and make those mistakes and get criticized for DOING SOMETHING! Every great person has been there, done that.

Now it's YOUR turn!

And as you get out there go for it, be sure to...

When Things Don't Feel Right...

You've heard of the "two percenter" as opposed to the "ninety-eight percenter", right?

If you haven't, to put it simply, the 2% set themselves apart from the other 98% of the population and, as a result, are at the top 2% of income earners.

The 98% are those that are part of the crowd that does the same things as everyone else in that 98% group. They follow the same plans and do the same things. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are unhappy or even unsuccessful (the definition of "success" can mean many different things).

But, it DOES mean this: there are only 2% that are willing to step out from the crowd and take more risks and, as a result, usually reap more rewards.

They don't look at things the same, think the same or do the same things as everyone else. They are not careless. They do their homework or "due diligence" but they also are not afraid to "follow their gut" when making their final decision.

Notice the quote from Albert Einstein above.  Following the crowd will usually take you only as far as the crowd is willing to go. It's that same idea that says that you will fit into the average of those ten people with which you spend most of your time.  You tend to go no further or do any better than the average of that group of people.

Why not step out and take the chance - the risk - so that you have a chance of finding yourself where no one has ever been before?

BECAUSE IT SCARES US!

I've heard Anthony Robbins say something along the line of how important it is for each of us to become more afraid of staying where we are than being afraid of the possible risk and unknown.

Step out of the shadow of fear and walk boldly.

And, as you do so, be sure to...

SEEING the OPPORTUNITY!

In my last podcast/blog I discussed the topic, “Opportunity IS Knocking!” and how important it is for us to realize that opportunity presents itself to us every second of every day. If you haven’t listened to the podcast or read the blog – you need to do that now before reading this one!

Yes, it is VERY important for us to understand that OPPORTUNITY is around us and that many times, it is “knocking” in order to get our attention – what will we do? What will YOU do?

Have you ever kicked yourself because of “missed” opportunities? My guess is that we all have! How do we prevent that from continually happening in our lives?

Here is a partial sharing of some quotes that I shared in this podcast (and, yes, I’m sure I’ve shared some of these before):
- Albert Einstein: “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.”
- Helen Keller: “When one door of happiness closes, another one opens. But, often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”
- Thomas Edison: “Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
- Winston Churchill: “The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity, but the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

Yes, even “opportunity” requires WORK! And “work”, for many people is a “four-letter word”! And, yes, EVEN IN DIFFICULTY – THERE IS OPPORTUNITY!

Here are some “steps” for us to use so that we may SEE the OPPORTUNITY:

1. OPEN YOUR MIND! In order for us to “see” and/or “hear” opportunity, we must first open our MINDS to the possibilities – a closed mind exists in darkness!

2. OPEN YOUR EYES! Only after opening your mind can you then open your eyes to SEE the opportunity that is around you each and every day!

3. OPEN YOUR EARS! Sometimes we can hear something before we see it – so it is with opportunity. But, once again, you cannot open your ears until you have first opened your mind!

Give all of this some thought as I continue to encourage you to be aware of the OPPORTUNITY that surrounds you every second of every day and, as always….

“Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)”
