What Are You Going To Do About It?

I had to re-read this quote at first. I thought, "Wait a minute, it doesn't sound right that the 2% would say, 'Life sucks!' " and then I read the REST of the quote to get the point.

 

Yeah, sometimes life DOES suck but, the key is this: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

 

Have you ever noticed that this is the key to a LOT of situations that we face?

 

Life hits us ALL hard at times. For several years now I've said that it is not a matter of "if" a "life-storm" comes into your life. It's a matter of "when" it does.

 

I'm not trying to be negative. Again, none of us will escape this life alive! (That's a play on words there, friend, in order to try to lighten this up just a little!).

 

ALL of us have faced, will face or even will face again, financial struggles, relationship struggles, health struggles, struggles with loss/death and on and on we could go.

 

LIFE HAPPENS.

 

Look at the question at the end of Dani Johnson's quote: "Which one are you?" OR, put another way, "What are YOU going to do about it?"

 

You remember, don't you, our discussion of the 2% vs. the 98% just a short time ago? It's really rather amazing when you consider that 98% of the population just basically gives up!

 

But, on the other hand, 2% of the population says, "BRING IT ON!".

 

Oh, I know that you may not fit the full profile of a 2%-er but by simply making the decision to stop WHINING about what's WRONG in life and moving FORWARD anyway, you are moving in the right direction.

Between Your Ears

I had to look up that first quote by Bobby Jones after hearing it referred to during a segment during a golf tournament on television yesterday. And, as a bonus, when I found THAT quote I also found the one by Ben Crenshaw.

 

Once I heard the first one and then found both of them, I KNEW I had to share them with you. WHY? Because THIS is what I do my best to help you (and myself) with EVERY day.

 

Every podcast is started with this quote of mine: "You're greatest education takes place on the campus of your mind."

 

YOU struggle with this, I struggle with this and, yes, PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES struggle with it as well.

You MUST Start!

I'm so glad that I had the chance to hear Zig Ziglar speak on two different occasions. The first time was around 32 years ago and the last time as a little over a year before he passed. Both were very different types of presentations but both were equally powerful.

 

The first time I heard Mr. Ziglar speak was at a time when he was still full of good health and vitality. He was all over that stage and on fire! The last time I got to hear him speak he was STILL all over that stage but at a much slower pace and with the help of his daughter. He was actually suffering from Alzheimer's and his daughter would have to keep him on track because he would often repeat something that he had already said. I will never forget at one point when his daughter said, "Daddy, you already told them that part." and, without missing a beat, Zig said, "Well, of course I did! I just don't think they got it the first time!"

Why Are You Running With the Crowd?

So, HAVE you ever taken the time to check out the results that the rest of "the crowd" is getting? I would guess that the results are likely not what you really desire.

 

You've heard of the "98%  vs. 2%" rule, have you not?

 

Simply put, 98% of people are all doing the same thing and getting the same thing while only 2% have stepped out on a different path and are getting much different (and better) results than all the rest.

 

If I remember correctly, statistics point to the realization that, by age 65, 98% of the population will be either dead or broke. Yeah, those that are still alive are likely "dead broke".

 

I've always heard that, in dealing with stocks or commodities that, if you are hearing on all of the "expert shows" that you need to get in on something that, the reality of the matter is, it's too late! Those that got in BEFORE "everybody else" did are the ones that profited the most from the action in the market.

 

Many times we THINK we are doing things differently when, in fact, we aren't. Have you ever noticed how many people (teens and college age) state that they are their "own person" and that they are "unique" yet, when you look at that group of people the same age, they all tend to look and act alike?

 

Doing something different simply for the sake of doing something different isn't what we're talking about either. There must be a REASON and a DECISION for such an action.

 

So how do you know what the "2% -ers" are doing?  FIND and FOLLOW one.

 

I try to listen to those that fit into this 2% group. They THINK differently, they ACT differently, they TALK differently and they LIVE differently.

 

They don't necessarily "fit the mold" of what you think someone in this category would. From what I understand, Sam Walton (the founder of Wal-Mart who, I believe, would be rolling over in his grave if he knew how his store was being run now) drove an old truck and even scolded his wife and made her take back some new car because it stood out too much.

 

You've likely heard the story of Warren Buffett living in the same house that he bought YEARS ago that, by most people's estimations, would not be considered a "mansion" of any sort.

 

She would be the first to tell you that she is not a "Sam Walton" or a "Warren Buffett" but, the one that I follow to help me continue to develop the mindset and actions of those in the top 2% is Dani Johnson (www.DaniJohnson.com).
