Success Factor #2: GET UP!

"Life has no remote. Get up and change it yourself" - Unknown

As always, if you've not done so, be sure to go back and read (and listen to the podcast) on "Success Factor #1: LOOK UP!" since it "leads into" today's topic for Success Factor #2.

Friend, it is a fact that, before you can GET UP you must first, LOOK UP so that you know what action you need to take and which direction you need to head when implementing that action. Remember, success does NOT always "knock"! You have to be on the look-out and be ready to take action once you see opportunity come your way.

So, bottom line, what will you do once opportunity appears? What action will you take...if any?

I was recently listening to a recording of several people sharing some personal development thoughts and heard some very good thoughts from Marisa Peer. In her thoughts about the "Law of Attraction" she pointed out that it doesn't take the process out to the practical aspect...the fact that, once you "attract" whatever it is into your life, you still have to ACT in order to bring it into actuality.

She used the example of "attracting" the opportunity for that "dream job". Even if you do attract that dream job, you STILL have to actually apply and interview for the job! You can't just sit back and think, "Well, the law of attraction will drop it into my lap...I'll just wait for them to call me."

NOPE!

In James 2: 15-17 we see this pointed out in a very practical way... " 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." (New King James Version)

To put it bluntly, TALK IS CHEAP! What good does it do to wish someone well and not DO anything about their situation? So it is with the need to GET UP and TAKE ACTION in every area of your life!

In the podcast, I also share some scripture from Ephesians 6 where the "armor of God" is discussed. Imagine, if you will, someone getting ready to go out to do battle. That is the imagery being used here. Different parts of the armor is discussed in this section of scripture (vs. 10 - 17) instructing the importance of putting on each piece as well as the actual importance OF each piece of armor.
But then, in verse 13, something very powerful (and important) is stated in this process - "...and having done all, to stand."

In other words, it doesn't matter how much you - or what you do to - prepare for battle, you must STAND (get up) in order to actually go out TO the battle! Again, "talk is cheap" but so is "pretty armor" if it is not actually used.

I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to hear the late Jim Rohn speak while he was still alive. I heard him say the quote that you see above many times and it speaks right along with what we are discussing today. Stop whining. Stop complaining. "If you don't like where you are, change it. You're not a tree." (Jim Rohn)

Change does not occur by staying seated...you have to actually GET UP in order to MOVE forward in the direction of your opportunity.

So, "Success Factor #1: LOOK UP!" and "Success Factor #2: GET UP!" will be followed in my next podcast and article with "Success Factor #3: GET GOING!"

Until next time, remember, YOU'RE HERE FOR A REASON and, whatever you do, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Mike's Quotes #30 :" Never Half-Way!"

"Doing something 'half-way' never brings reward or satisfaction."
- Mike Spillman (02.28.14)

Are you frustrated? Are you discouraged? Are you tired of experiencing the same "life of lack" that you have experienced for the past ____ years? (You fill in the blank).

As we begin this article, take a moment and answer those questions as to how they relate to different areas of your life. Health/weight? Financially? Attitude/mindset?

If you find that you answer "yes" to any or all of the questions in that first paragraph then you must also take a moment to consider the question, "WHY is this true?"

As we approach the beginning of another New Year, you may find that you are frustrated and discouraged as you look over your failure to achieve what you stated in your latest (of many?) "New Year's Resolutions".

If this is so - and it likely is - then, again, you MUST take a close look and ask yourself WHY this is true. And, more than likely, the answer will boil down to the fact that you have not made the changes necessary to change the direction of your life.

Remember, in order for things to change, things must change. If nothing changes, nothing changes! And, friend, "Doing something 'half-way' never brings reward or satisfaction."

As I did in the podcast and video, let me clarify something on this thought. When I say, "half-way", I'm not talking about you falling short on a goal. For example, let's say reaching your goal would be a "10" and you only got to a "5" during the course of the year. You got "half-way" to your goal. Friend, if you put in your best effort and only got "half-way" to where you intended to be, that's not a bad thing! You are way ahead of where you were when you began! Don't miss that important part.

HOWEVER, if you only put a "half-hearted" or "half-way" attempt into this process then, friend, you should not be surprised when you realize that you likely didn't even reach "5" on this scale.

Go back and read, listen and watch the previous entries for this week's series and understand that, if you put out a "positive expectation" about what you seek and desire, you WILL attract what is needed in your life in order to achieve that which you seek and desire!

As I type this article, it is a Wednesday and this article will be published on a Friday. I point that out because I experienced yet ANOTHER "connection" that shows me clearly, once again, about how all of this works together. As a brief review, I organized and prepared the quotes that I would be using in this weeks series around the end of last week. This past Sunday afternoon I watched some videos that featured some thoughts from Bob Proctor about how this process works and how we are able to "attract" powerful and positive "things" into our life that we need to succeed. The article Monday, which was selected BEFORE I listened/watched these videos, went "hand in hand" with these thoughts and then, on Tuesday morning I was on a call where the speaker talked about this exact same thing! WOW! And then, last night, I listened to yet another speaker, on a webinar for a completely different company, nail down these exact same thoughts during his presentation. DOUBLE WOW!

But you can NOT do this by approaching things half-way! If you approach whatever it is with an attitude of, "Eh, if I do, great and if I don't succeed, that's o.k., too." then you are doomed to failure and more frustration and misery in and for your life. Indeed, "Go Big or Go Home!"

I love this quote but, at the same time, I want to point out that you have to know what direction you need to take in order to reach your dreams. You will NEVER do so by approaching this with a half-hearted and half-way attempt.

Are you ready to FINALLY leave that miserable life and attitude behind? If so, I'm here to help in any way that I can and I'd love to hear from you. Go to my Facebook page (link below) and leave a comment and let's connect.

And, until next time, whatever you do, always be sure to...

Mike's Quotes #28: Don't Let SIMPLE Fool You!

“Sometimes the PROFOUND can be FOUND in the simple. Don't miss that!” - Mike Spillman

I hope you are not one of "those people" that will dismiss ideas, thoughts, suggestions, lessons and/or messages just because it may seem to be "too simple".

What a huge mistake many make!

Do NOT miss this important truth: "Sometimes the PROFOUND can be FOUND in the simple."

If you haven't been following along this week, please go back and start with the first article for this week entitled, "Direct Your Thoughts" by clicking HERE. It is important to do so because these previous articles will "set the table" for my point about the NECESSITY of "watching for" those things that will be coming into your life through this process.

Again, you MUST BE READY for those "things" that are "accepting your invitation" and have been "attracted" by your thoughts and intentions. See what I mean? If you haven't read the previous articles, you may very well be "lost" with what I am saying. If you are familiar with Bob Proctor you will recognize this type of thinking and process.

Too many times we are waiting for and watching for something really "BIG" and "IMPRESSIVE" to attract us to our future. Sure, that MIGHT happen but, more often than not, it will be the unassuming that will pass before you. WILL YOU PAY ATTENTION AND NOTICE?

I've shared before about a ride I took on my motorcycle several years ago. It was just a nice, leisurely ride that I was taking and, along the way, I noticed the EXACT same message (EXACT same words) on three different signs in three different communities/towns. They were all signs in front of church buildings and I even thought, "Maybe there is some sort of organized message that they are all doing for some special purpose." I found that this was not true which helped me understand even more strongly that this was NOT just a coincidence but a special message that I was SUPPOSED to see on this day. The message? "Believe in Yourself". What a powerful message! And then, as I was riding through my home town on the way back to my house, I glanced at a sign in front of an insurance office that had one of those "scrolling" messages going across and I saw the words, "...and others".

There was my message that I could have overlooked very easily: "Believe in Yourself and Others".

IF - and that may be an important word and qualifier in all of this for you - you are seriously wanting to change the direction of your life in a more positive and powerful way and IF you are determined to involve yourself in daily, purposeful activity then you will have messages, lessons and other needed tools come your way in various forms. And, that being true (and it IS), you may miss some along the way. This does NOT mean that you are doomed because of that happening.

HOWEVER, it only takes some common sense to understand that there is a limit - a very SMALL limit - to how much of this can slip by you and you still be able to have success in whatever it is you seek.

Hey friend, here's something exciting I want to share with you: You will be AMAZED and EXCITED when you see this coming your way and when you start noticing all of these types of things, even - or maybe ESPECIALLY - by way of that which we may tend to label as "simple".

Do NOT miss that! And, until next time, whatever you do, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Mike's Quotes #27: "Thoughts PLUS Purpose"

"Although THINKING something is a wonderful thing to do, it serves no real purpose unless PURPOSE is attached to the thought!" - Mike Spillman (06.02.14)

It is an absolute NECESSITY that you go back and read the previous article so that you can connect the two. The two together add up to one POWERFUL TRUTH!

YES, our thoughts WILL and DO "direct our path" in and for our life, but we MUST put "purposeful action" behind those thoughts. I'll share the example I used in the podcast and the video for this topic. Again, it's simple, but I think you will easily see the point that I wish to make about this thought.

Let's say that you have decided to have a Christmas party. You call some friends, post on social media for other friends and even send out an actual invitation to still other friends. You hear from several that they plan to attend at the set date and time. Wow! The day arrives and, about 30 minutes before the party is to begin you hear a knock at the door but you do not answer. After a few minutes, the door bell rings as well as some knocks on the door and you can tell, by listening, that there are several people gathered at the door, waiting to come in for the party. BUT YOU NEVER ANSWER THE DOOR TO LET ANYONE IN! What? How silly is that? As a matter of fact, although you sent out invitations that indicated that you were planning to have a party, you haven't even done ANYTHING to have a party...no food, no decorations, absolutely nothing!

Would you ever actually do such a thing? I'm not talking about you getting sick or some emergency coming up that caused you to cancel the party. Nope, just a situation described exactly as I did in the last paragraph. You would NEVER do something like that, would you? Of course not!

Here's the deal...it's the same thing if you understand the importance, necessity and "connection" between your thoughts - what you THINK - and what you attract or "invite" into your life and you don't do anything to prepare or take action when your "invited guests" arrive. Make sense?

In the same way that I discussed the fact that "opportunity doesn't always knock" so it is with what you have attracted or invited into and for your life. You MUST have your eyes open and you MUST pay attention so that you don't miss those "guests".

So, if you've followed along for the past couple of month, we get right back to DAILY, PURPOSEFUL ACTIVITY. There is no way around the need for this purposeful activity.

BE SURE to listen to the podcast and watch the video that goes along with today's topic. You will gain some additional thoughts and material that you will find to be valuable in this area. Also, be sure to leave a comment on my Facebook page (link below)...I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, friend, whatever you do, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

What to Do With STRESS

STRESS...I'm sure you've felt the strain of stress in your life. Am I right? Stress can literally strangle you to the point of being unable to breathe.

Without going into details, let me just say that my wife and I have experienced quite a bit of stress over the past couple of months and, just as I described, it had gotten to the point that it was literally hard to breathe and even sleep.

A few years ago I shared with you the story of a "special message" that I kept getting one afternoon while out on a ride on my motorcycle. On two or three signs (I don't remember which now) I saw the message, "Believer in Yourself". This got my attention! The SAME message on different signs on the same day? And then, as I was riding back through my home town, I passed an insurance office with one of those scrolling signs and caught the very tail end of a message. I have no idea what the first part was but, the part that I saw as I passed was, "...and YOURSELF!".

That day I wrote that message down - "Believe in Yourself and Others!" - and even have it as my background on one of my computers.

Now, that has nothing to do with today's message except for the fact that I could not miss another situation in which a particular message kept getting my attention a couple of days ago.

This time it was on my Facebook news feed. I "subscribe" to a lot of different pages and receive a lot of good, positive messages from these sources. However, the other day STRESS was working hard on my wife and I and was literally choking the life out of me. It was hard to remain focused and positive due to this fact.

All on the same day, but THIS was the first notice of the day that got my attention:

Wow, I thought that this was pretty powerful since it spoke specifically about STRESS and since this was something that was greatly affecting my thought process and even my very ability to think clearly. Then, during the same few minutes, I scrolled down the page just a little further, and I came across the next graphic:

Now, here's the deal.....I KNOW THIS STUFF and I often share such thoughts with YOU!

But friend, never forget that I, too, am human and that I struggle with things like this just as you do. I think - and I hope - that I always make this very clear in the things that I write and the things that you hear me say through my podcast.

So, even though this last graphic didn't say anything SPECIFIC about "stress" it still hit home and got my attention, especially when combined with the graphic above it that I had come across just moments before.

And then, to top it all off, I scrolled down the SAME page, on the SAME day, within the SAME few minutes and found this graphic:

Now friend, you tell me...if this series of graphics "appeared" to you in a matter of moments in the circumstance that I have described, would it get YOUR attention?

I wish I could say that I IMMEDIATELY copied these graphics on to my computer...but that would be a lie. I waited a few hours with these things going through my head and thinking about how they came to my attention and THEN I went back and copied them to my computer KNOWING that I would be using them to share with you like this.

The "Law of Attraction" simply speaks to the fact that the thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. that you PUT OUT is what will "come back" to you.

Here's a quick illustration to help clarify this "law" and how it works. Have you ever bought a particular make and model of automobile and then begin to notice how many similar automobiles just like yours are out there? They've been out there all of the time but NOW that you have your focus on what it is that you are driving, it's as if your eyes have been opened to that very particular make and model.

Make sense?

I don't know, maybe you needed to see these same graphics today. Maybe this message today was exactly what you needed to read. If not you, then maybe someone else.

That's why it's so important to share this with those that you know - whether you think they need it or not. You may not know what it is that THEY are struggling with and, perhaps, without your knowledge, THIS is what they needed to read today.

Thanks for your time and thank you for sharing this with others.

Until next time, whatever you do, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Stepping Away From the Mundane

I (or I should say, my wife and I) walked away from my job two days ago and I feel more alive today than I have in a very long time.

This thought/idea may sound completely foreign to you but, for me, it's been a life-saving move and one that was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for my life and my mission in life.

Like many, I had allowed myself to get into a situation (and this situation was mostly due to my mindset) to where I felt I had no other option but to crawl to a J-O-B. This was a job that ANYONE could do (and DOES do), that required no special skills and, quite honestly, had no future whatsoever. It was strictly a J-O-B and a way to bring some money in and to pay the bills. It paid the bills (most of the time) but that was ALL it did. There was no freedom with our time and there was not enough left after paying bills to actually enjoy what time we did have when we were off from that job.

But here's the worse part: IT WAS SUCKING ME INTO A HOLE THAT MANY NEVER PULL THEMSELVES OUT OF - it was like quicksand. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that type of concept.

I/we stayed there longer than I had planned and I knew that if I didn't do something DRASTIC (something that 98% of those there would not ever do) then I, too, would be stuck there continuing to dread every day.

Friend, THAT'S NOT WHAT LIFE IS ABOUT!

So, I/we walked away. Yes, we have plans and things in action that we have had to put off due to having that J-O-B. And I feel more ALIVE, EXCITED and ENERGETIC than I have felt in a very long time.

As a matter of fact, a couple of hours ago my wife and I sat on our back porch watching the rain (which we love to do but haven't done in a very long time due to that J-O-B), smelling the rain and just talking excitedly about what all life had to offer us now that we have cut the chains that were dragging us down and keeping us attached to that mind-numbing activity from which most people never, ever break free.

What about you? Does that scare you? Does that sound crazy or does it MAKE SENSE to you? Does it EXCITE you?

But how?

That's the fun part, friend. But first and foremost you have to CHANGE your MINDSET! Instead of being AFRAID (fearful) of taking such a step you need to WAKE UP and be MORE AFRAID (fearful) of staying where you are if you DO NOT LIKE where you are. Make sense?

But, as always, it's up to you. Think and plan - YES! But, sooner or later those thoughts and plans must position yourself to finally take ACTION.

I'm so glad I/we did.

Until next time, whatever you do, be sure to "Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

"Seek and Ye Shall Find"

In today's podcast I discuss the words of Jesus, "Ask and it shall be given to you, Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened." And, no, I didn't preach a sermon, but used this as a springboard to today's discussion - "Seek and Ye Shall Find"

Think about it - what are you searching for? What do you FIND in your life? If you find your life full of negative people, thoughts and ideas then perhaps you need to start SEEKING something better!

You will FIND what you are looking for! I share the story of a country store clerk that has a discussion with a gentleman coming in from out of town. He asks the store clerk (while the store clerk's son looks on) what kind of people live in this town. The store clerk replies by asking the man what kind of people live in the town from which he is moving. The gentleman talks of how wonderful they are and that they are loving and helpful. He was relieved to hear the store clerk inform him that this was exactly what kind of people lived in this town!
The next day, another gentleman comes in and, with the same situation confronting him, asks the store clerk (once again with his son watching) the same question which, in turn, received the same reply from the store clerk - "What kind of people live in the town from which you're moving?" This gentleman responded talking about how terrible these people were...mean, unkind and uncaring. This man was disappointed to hear the store clear inform him that this was exactly what kind of people lived in this town!
Confused, the boy asked his father (after the gentleman left the store) why he gave two completely different answers about the same town. "It's all in what you are looking for, son." the man replied. "If you are looking for nice people, you'll find them and if you are looking for mean and nasty people, that, too, is what you will find."

It's true in our lives as well! If you "wear your feelings on your sleeve" and take everything as an offense - guess what? Your day will be filled with feeling offended. All day. Every day.
Now, sometimes, this is a problem that may need to be worked out with some professional help. Some people have an attitude about themselves that they do not DESERVE anything better and, so, they DESERVE all of this negativity in their lives. (Ever know of a person that kept marrying the same type of destructive personality?)

So, you see, as is the case so often with these issues - THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Are you familiar with "The Attractor Factor" or the "law of attraction"? I'm not sure I agree with every bit of it, but I DO agree that you attract what you exude.

Might I encourage you to decide once and for all to CHOOSE to FIND the GOOD and the POSITIVE that does, indeed, surround each one of us?

This is more important today than perhaps ever before in our lives!

What are YOU looking for? "Seek and ye shall find..."

Make it an AWESOME Day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)
