REPOST: "What Are Your Dreams Worth?"

I'm still away on a trip on my motorcycle, so I wanted to be sure to leave you with something to digest for today! (And, hey, it's not just sugar free - it's CALORIE FREE!).
This was my 2nd blog article that went along with my podcast on the same topic - just like I still do today. So, be sure to read the article but, also, be sure to listen to the podcast for the "complete package" on this topic.
Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------------

Today, on our way home for a High School state tournament basketball game I saw this sign in front of a church building (you know, those signs with changeable letters that many churches have out front?) - "Everyone loves the harvest - no one loves the plowing" and I thought, "Wow, how profound!"

As a matter of fact, it completely took me in a new direction for the podcast that I had already planned - but that's nothing unusual for me!

We all enjoy eating the fruit of the harvest whether it be watermelon, fresh peas, lettuce or whatever it is that you enjoy. But, how many of us enjoy the hours of hard work out in the sun that MUST take place in order for the harvest to take place?

NOT MANY!

But, if you want the harvest you prepare the soil, plant the seed, keep the weeds away, water and all of the other things anyway.

What are your dreams worth? Are you willing to put in the time and effort to make them come true? Are you expecting things to just drop into your lap? If so, join the millions throwing down their money with the hopes of one day winning the lottery!

Bottom line: You must be willing to put some ACTION into your DREAMS!

What's it worth? Is it worth turning off the television? Is it worth some exta time even AFTER you return home from your "real" job?

Only you can decide. If you listen to my podcast you will hear some trememdous quotes that I found on "persistence". The "value" that you have placed on your dreams will determine the level and amount of your persistence.

What's it worth? You decide and....

Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)

Say More by Saying LESS

Take a moment and really take in the graphic that I came up with the other day that you see above.

Go ahead...take a look.

What kind of budget would you have to set up for yourself based on how many words you say during the course of a day? That's kind of crazy to think about, isn't it?

I'm not going to do it but, if you want to have some fun with this idea, count the number of words that I used in this blog article.

The point is this: IF you had to pay $1 for EVERY word that you say....would it change the way that you speak? Would it change how MUCH you say? Would it change WHAT you say?

Sure it would.

"Say MORE by saying LESS" might be a good idea to try to live by...think about it.

There is too much "noise pollution" in the world today and much of it comes from people talking way too much. Don't get "worked up" on this until you hear what I'm actually saying, o.k.?

I'm not talking about friends that haven't seen each other for a long time or family that hasn't seen each other in a long time. I'm not talking about family and close friends at all. The day may come when we WISHED we had just one more conversation with that family member or friend.

I AM talking about those that seem to have the need to tell you everything that they have to say about anything AND everything. Do you know someone like that? People that "hog" the conversation and, usually, don't end up sounding as intelligent as they would like.

If they - and us - had to pay $1 for EVERY word that we said during the course of a day, what would change?

Would we be more patient? Would we be more careful? Would we take the time to THINK a little longer BEFORE we speak?

Think about it this way...if we actually spoke less the first time, we'd have to spend less time - and use less words - having to explain or apologize later.

Positive, Patient and Persistent

Short and to the point today.

I hope that all of you understand the importance of remaining POSITIVE as we go along this journey called life. You do, right?

Not only does it make a big difference in OUR lives, but it also makes an impact - yes, a POSITIVE impact - on those around us. Many times we may never know what our positive attitude has done for someone else that has crossed our path through the course of a day.

And, thought it's not always easy, I would think that most of us also understand the importance of being PATIENT even as we strive to remain positive. Seriously!

For me, the testing of my patience will often determine whether I keep a positive attitude or if I allow my attitude to take a negative turn. IT'S MY CHOICE. But, wow, I have always tended to be an impatient person and it is literally, a daily struggle. Yes, I am much better than I used to be but, at the same time, I have a long ways to go!

What about you?

So, maybe we can even say it this way: "Stay POSITIVE so that you can practice PATIENCE."

Now, here's the kicker, friend. In order for us to be successful with either remaining positive or patient, it is going to demand - yes, DEMAND - that we be PERSISTENT!

Attempting improvement in anything - ANYTHING - by attempting that improvement for only a short period of time will NEVER bring about that improvement. Make sense?

You will never achieve IMPROVEMENT in anything unless you are PERSISTENT in your pursuit of that improvement. You can't quit or give up early.

Nope.

You MUST push on even when you give like giving up. Patience, remember?

Remaining persistent is where many fall short and fail.

How determined - how PERSISTENT - are you in achieving whatever it is that you have set out to achieve in and for your life?

The 3 P's of Improvement: Positive, Patient, Persistent

You CAN accomplish what you desire through this process, friend. But don't you DARE, EVER GIVE UP.

Remember, as you continue to "push through" each and every day, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

4th of 4 Agreements: DO YOUR BEST!

- Your Best is Going to Change From Moment to Moment; It Will be Different When You are Healthy as Opposed to Sick -  Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid
self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.-

You know, so many of the things that we've discussed over this discussion of "The Four Agreements" really boils down to us being more patient and caring with those around us.

Think about that for a minute and apply that thought to what has been discussed: Making sure our word is "impeccable" and being careful how we use our words; not taking everything personally; taking the time to listen to what people are saying as well as taking the time to clearly communicate what it is you are trying to say.

We're in too much of a rush with too many things...including our relationships.

Our being more patient and caring with one another will also help us understand that people are not ALWAYS at their "best" 100% of the time. People get tired, stressed and sick. Those that try to always put forward that "Sure, I just got hit by a car but I'm AWESOME!" attitude are usually headed for some sort of mental crash in the near future.

We don't need to expect "our best" at all times nor should we expect that from those around us. Relax a little and be a little more patient.

Simply do your best.

I actually had a "boss" (that's all he was for he surely was NOT a leader of people) tell me that doing my best was not good enough.

My team manager was working with us to help us set some goals for the day when "Mr. Boss" (that's about the nicest name I can come up with *grin*) came by to try to get us to boost them up even higher. Like I said, he was not a leader but, rather, he was a bully to those that would allow it.

Each of us had to go up to the white board and write down a number to indicate our goal for the day while he stood right next to the board and watched us. The first young lady went up and timidly put up what was likely a realistic goal for herself and he looked at her, shook his head and said, "Nooooooo." Which caused her to make up a number that meant nothing.

This basically caused him to go on a 15 minute rant about goals in a very negative and over-bearing manner. I simply could not look at him which, of course, drew his attention. He picked me out of the group and said, "Hey, what's YOUR goal for the day?" I replied that my goal was to do the best that I could to which he replied, "That's not good enough!" Now, mind you, this guy was not used to anyone standing up to him so it didn't really go over real well when I said, "My best is not good enough for you?" When he emphasized, "NO" I did actually say, "I think you are the first person that I've ever met that wouldn't kill to have a work force that was dedicated to doing their best."

He went on and on to the group about how doing your best may not be good enough, basically said that my thought was idiotic,  and then left. Honestly, people like this are not used to being stood up to and he didn't quite know what to do with me, so he called my manager in instead. With a smile on her face she had to have a "talk" with me and reprimand me for "showing him up" in front of the others.

So, let's just sum up that whole point here: DO YOUR BEST AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE REST!

Do all that you can do, give it your all - do your best - and stop beating yourself up because someone else (or even yourself) feels that it isn't good enough.

If you do your best, what more is there?

Hey friend, there's enough negativity out there that is working to tear us down, right? So how about we all decide to take care of each other a little more by being more patient, caring and understanding?

Your world will be a much more peaceful place as will those connected to your world, which then means that their world will also be a much more peaceful place. And on and on it goes.

Thanks for your time. Until next time, be sure to...

What Will YOU Allow? (Part 2)

In our last blog and podcast I approached this topic from the side of allowing NEGATIVE things into our lives and that, as long as we allow these things in our lives that they would continue to exist.

If you haven't done so, go back and take a look and listen so that you can apply that important part to your life.

It was not until AFTER I had recorded the audio for that last podcast that it hit me - it is also important to apply this to allowing POSITIVE things into our lives as well. Let's take a look.

Many have a hard time accepting GOOD in their lives due to the them feeling that they do not "deserve" anything good in their life. There are more people that feel this way than you might imagine and, honestly, there are some that feel this way that don't really even understand that they do.

So many live a life full of chaos that they can't even imagine having a life of peace instead. They even begin to think that it is IMPOSSIBLE and, yes, even something that they do not deserve. Yet, if you apply what we talked about in the last article, and you begin to NO LONGER ALLOW the chaos in your life and you begin to allow PEACE in your life then, guess what? Chaos ceases to exist and PEACE begins to become present instead.

WHAT YOU ALLOW IS WHAT WILL CONTINUE!

It's your choice: chaos or peace, impatience or patience, negative attitude or positive attitude, doing your job "half-way" or doing the very best you can do and feeling good about it, stress in your marriage or patience and love.

Again, YOU KNOW what area it is in your life that you are allowing something that you need to change and remove. YOU KNOW which area of your life that you need to allow something "better" and more productive.

Like I said, it's your choice. It's up to you  and it can begin today.

What will you do? It depends on what you want to allow into your life!

The 3 P's of Success

Success can have a wide range of definitions and mean different things to different people. However, regardless of what it means for you, this applies in every way.

Whatever area it is in which you are looking to achieve success, these "3 P's" are an absolute must:
     1. Positive
     2. Patient
     3. Persistent

First of all, if you allow yourself to get negative, to fall into negativity, then you will struggle in whatever it is that you seek success. THAT, my friend, IS A FACT! Keeping a POSITIVE attitude about whatever it is that you are doing will help keep you FOCUSED and MOVING FORWARD!

A positive attitude will help you maintain a "can do" approach verses a negative, "CAN'T do" approach.

Listen friend, it is EASY to LOOSE your positive attitude very quickly! That's why it is so important to invest DAILY in this area by listening to and/or reading as much as you can throughout each and every day.

Secondly, you must be PATIENT! I've said it before but let me repeat: Reaching your goals (whatever they may be) will more than likely take you LONGER than you first thought that it would. You must be PATIENT and allow "things" to work together to achieve results. Many times our lack of patience will actually sabotage our efforts without us even realizing what happened.

Patience does NOT mean that you just sit back and wait for things to happen. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Patience is allowing things to work AS YOU CONTINUE TO WORK!

Which means that you must also be PERSISTENT. Yes, you must be patient but you MUST keep working while you do so. You must CONTINUE - be persistent - as you patiently await for the "harvest" of the "seeds" that have been planted  in whatever area it is that you are working.

Again, remember that it is DIFFICULT before it's EASY and too many people give up just before they break through that barrier.

Hey, by the way, make sure that you also listen to the podcast (links below) that go along with this. Even though they are on the same topic as the blog, they are recorded at a different time and there is not a script that is used. That means that you will hear similar but different thoughts there. It's like a 2-for-1 scenario!

So remember to be POSITIVE, PATIENT and PERSISTENT as you work your way toward the success which you seek.

And, as you do so, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

What Are YOUR Dreams Worth?

Again, this entry will go along with my latest podcast - but it will not cover everything mentioned there. That link to the podcast (same as in the first entry) is: http://mspillman.hipcast.com/rss/future-you-university.xml
