Positive Mindset 101: FORCED Relationships (Dealing With Co-Workers) and CONCLUSION

Click HERE for the podcast episode

In today's post I will take the discussion of the "Mind Fields" that can cause great harm to our desire for a POSITIVE MINDSET and apply them for when we deal with those that we have out of "necessity" (some family like in-laws or step family AND our co-worker and managers/bosses).

HOW DO YOU HANDLE THOSE SITUATIONS ?

As always, if you have not read the previous articles leading up to this one, you NEED to do so. I mean, it's a series, right? Also, if you really want to benefit from this series, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DONE THE HOMEWORK for the previous articles. Don't want to? That's your choice but, I can tell you even based on that choice, that NOTHING will change in your life in this area. How do I know that? Your decisions in relationship to this "homework" shows your approach to ALL choices and decisions. #TRUTH

So, just as I requested that you in the last article, I want you to write down ALL of the people that fit into the category of "forced relationships" in your life. List them out by name, how much time you spend with them and also rate them from 1 (most negative influence on you) to 10 (most positive influence on you) just as you did in the last assignment. *Note: There is no need to write down EVERY person with which you have contact at work...only those that you MUST spend the most time. Now, of course, even if there is someone that you don't have to spend much time with at work, if they have a profound impact on your - either negative or positive - do include them.

So, again, they could be family members that are "forced" (in-laws, step family, etc.), co-workers, managers/bosses and any others that you may come up with.

Because you do spend so much time with those "forced relationships" at work (and the same may be true for some of your forced family relationships) it can become very difficult to not allow the negative impact to affect you in a negative way as well. YOU MUST TAKE ACTION if you, indeed, want to improve your mindset and your day even while at work!

With our "relationships by choice" (last article) we can actually make the decision to separate ourselves from those relationships if/when it's necessary BUT it's not always possible to do when it comes to our work environment. So, what do you do then?

That's right! In situations like this, you have no other choice but to ADAPT!

What do I mean by that? It's not likely that even your positive influence is going to have an immediate impact on those difficult people at your workplace BUT you can adapt to the fact that it IS difficult and use your creative mindset to figure out a way to approach this situation in a way that WILL bring positive results over time. How?

1. Determine that you will NOT allow others to impact you in a negative way! Yes, easier said than done but make this your MISSION each and every day and then approach your day with that in mind.

2. Determine that YOU will be the THERMOSTAT and not a THERMOMETER (much more on this in an upcoming article). In other words, YOU be the one that "sets the temperature" and don't just "react" to the "negative temperature" set by others.

3. Be sure to listen to the podcast or watch the video to hear a story I have shared several times before of how my wife did just that with an Assistant Manager that she was told, when she first began working for this company,  to avoid at all costs because this A.M. was so negative.  End result? This A.M. ended up hand knitting a "throw/blanket" for my wife while my wife was there. TRUE STORY!

And, finally, in these "forced relationship" situations, it may be difficult to apply the "Replace and Remove" model talked about in an earlier article. Sure, you could quit your job but, at the same time, if you're not ready and already have a BETTER situation lined up, that may be a bad choice! Also, consider that if you've not implemented what is being talked about in today's article, you WILL run into the same situation at your next job before long. Then what?

Be GENUINE in your adapting and see what begins to happen when your GENUINE POSITIVE MINDSET begins to have a POSITIVE IMPACT on those around you.

You know what else MIGHT happen (at this job or due to an offer for another position elsewhere)? You may find that those in management have notice your positive influence and see you as an excellent candidate to use that mindset in a higher position working/influencing more people.

Very simply, the concluding podcast and video asks the question: "NOW WHAT?"

You've been given the "roadmap" on how to actually DO SOMETHING to learn how to DEVELOP and MAINTAIN a positive mindset.

I will say it again: If you've not been committed enough to even do the "homework" that was assigned along the way, then you will not have the commitment needed to actually change your situation.

It's up to you BUT I still will offer another source of help for you if you will only REACH OUT and HELP ME as I strive to HELP YOU.

Pay attention here: This process that we have gone through applies to ANY and EVERY area of your life! That is the truth. You apply this to your struggle to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You can apply this to a struggle you may have with your marriage or any other close relationship that you have. You can apply this to the struggle of feeling "stuck" in and at your job. Yes, you can even apply this to finances.

What "hits home" for you? What area would you like to be able to "dig a little deeper" on and get even more help and encouragement with to help you succeed? I NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU SO THAT I CAN HELP YOU IN THAT AREA!

Do NOT Give Up!

Let me mention, right off the start, that you can find the podcast that goes along with this very same topic by clicking on the podcast link at the end of this article. I don't follow a script when I do the podcast and the blog article so, even though the topic is the same and there are some similarities, there is different material to be found in each.
Chances are, at some point in your life - at least once - you have felt like giving up. And, if we were to be completely honest, most of us would have to admit that we likely actually HAVE given up on something in our lifetime.
But we don't like to admit it. Why? Because it makes us feel like a failure!
However, keep this important fact in mind: One usually must experience failure (and, sometimes, lots of it!) in order to finally experience success.

When I first put together my first podcast back on March 2, 2009, I came up with a little saying that I use with every podcast still today: "As long as there is breath, there is hope!" I have also discussed that thought in several podcasts and blog articles since that time.
But it is still such an important fact to keep in mind! No matter how large the problem(s) may seem or how "dark" your world may seem, as long as you are alive and breathing, THERE IS HOPE for something to change!
I get it. Sometimes it is VERY difficult to "see" any type of hope or change when things are really difficult.  But, friend, it IS possible!
I've used the following example many times in the past and I use it in the podcast that goes along with this article. It will take a lot bigger space, a lot more time and, yes, even the cost of a lot more fuel to turn around a large tanker in the ocean than it does a small jet ski, but it IS possible to turn that thing around!
Time. Effort. Dedication. Space.
THESE are the things that we give up on too soon, my friend.
Thankfully, I had the opportunity to hear the late, great, Jim Rohn speak before his passing and this is one of my favorite quotes that I actually heard him say at such an occasion: "The major key to your better future is you."
We MUST begin to understand this important fact! YOU are what makes the difference! Stop telling yourself that you are a FAILURE and start telling yourself that YOU ARE THE SOLUTION!
Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP!
GET UP - however many times it takes - and KEEP MOVING FORWARD!

Be sure to listen to the podcast and hear me talk about being 10 years behind on some of my goals. Have I ever thought about giving up? YES! Have I done so? To some extent, at times...YES! But, do I continue to push forward anyway? YES! YES! YES!
And I encourage you, friend, to do the same. Don't you EVER give up!

And, please also keep this in mind until our next time together...

Celebrating 6 Years!

Yes, absolutely, it's hard to believe that it's been SIX YEARS since I did my first blog and podcast back on March 2, 2009. But, it's true and here we are today...SIX YEARS later!

First and foremost, I want to THANK YOU for being a part of this journey. Some of you may have been a part of FYU from the beginning and, others of you, may have just now found this avenue of positive information and encouragement.

Either way, I humbly say, "THANK YOU!".

For those of you that have followed along for a while you will know that what I'm about to say is true: The journey that I have taken with Future You University is simply a representation of LIFE.

There have been high points and there have been low points. There was actually even a period of time when I had to "close up shop" and stop doing both the blog and the podcast, but I came back after a period of time.

THAT'S LIFE in a nutshell, is it not?

Sure, you can say (and I even use the phrase on the podcast) that I "quit" for a while but I'd rather look at it as that I took a break until I got some things straightened out and then I cam back and picked up where I left off.

Am I where I want to be after six years? Am I satisfied with my progress at this point?

NO!

And I won't give up...I'll never give up.

And, neither should you. You WILL get knocked down but, friend, don't stay down and don't give up - GET UP and KEEP PUSHING FORWARD!

Take a few moments and listen to the podcast and enjoy some "different" music that I put together myself for this podcast. Well, actually, I had used it for another anniversary in the past but, I put it together and used it for that purpose.

I would be amiss if I did not mention that today is also my son, Jeremy's, birthday as well! What a great day!

And, finally, as I step out moving on toward year seven, I seek your continued support and input. Please visit the links below and become a part of the fan page on Facebook. I'd love to hear from you.

Until next time...whatever you do, be sure to...

YES, You Will! (Saying "YES" to Life)

YES, YOU ARE! - YES, YOU CAN! - YES, YOU WILL!

Thanks for staying with me for the duration of this series. I hope that you have been uplifted and encouraged and REMINDED of how capable you really are

As always, if you haven't had the chance to read the two, previous articles in this series, then please do so before you read this piece. YES, BEFORE you read this one.

Also, I want you to take the time to listen to the podcasts on this topic. Click on either of the two links at the bottom of this article to get connected to the podcasts and then, please SHARE both the podcast and the blog with as many people as possible. Friend, I'm on a mission and I'd like you to be a part of helping me spread the positive message that I know people need.

So, we've covered the fact that you ARE capable of accomplishing great things and, with that being true, we've also talked about the reality that you CAN accomplish those things.

BE SURE to copy and post the "7 Daily Affirmations" that I shared in the first article on this series (go back two articles, find it and print it out) and make it a habit to verbalize these DAILY!

Yes, it is THAT important!

In relation to this article, I want to call your attention to #7: I CAN! I WILL! I MUST!

I've already established the fact that you ARE capable and that you CAN, indeed, accomplish these things. Now then, TODAY you must take the next step and challenge yourself with a DECISION. You must proclaim loudly and boldly that you WILL take action and that you WILL accomplish these things!

But, as shared in that 7th affirmation, I want to challenge you to take it even one step further by deciding that this is an ABSOLUTE MUST for your life!

You need to make this a "do or die" proposition for yourself. I'm not joking.

If you don't do that then, friend, anything and everything will distract, discourage and devour you!

As the graphic below states: "You WILL if your "will" is strong enough!"

Stay with me, talk with me through the avenues listed below and I will do all that I can to help you KEEP YOUR FOCUS and RESOLVE but, as usual, there is one major fact that must be acknowledged:

IT IS STILL UP TO YOU TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Will you? No one can answer that question BUT you. "You will IF your 'will' is strong enough!"

Begin saying "YES" to life again and start doing that TODAY.

As you do so, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"
