Mike's Quotes #9: Rise Above and Move On

“Some people like to talk behind your back. Some people like to start rumors. Some people are up to no good. So what? Let them and you move on and LIVE your life! You don't live for them, do you?” - Mike Spillman (12.10)

Yes, you can absolutely "control" the "atmosphere" of YOUR world. You definitely can choose who it is that you wish to spend time with on a regular basis and you can also choose what information you put into your mind that will determine your mindset.

HOWEVER, no matter how much of this type of activity we do, there are still things that we cannot control. There will STILL be information that we will see and hear that will creep into our mindset even if we did not purposely determine to access that information.

As a matter of fact, - and it IS fact - whenever you make a decision to try to improve your positive mindset and you take action like I described in the first paragraph, people will do the things described in the quote for today. Sad, but true!

Why? For those that may be reading some of my material for the first time, I will explain it once again. Those around you don't want to be "left behind" and they don't want to see you"break away" from the "same old way" of which they prefer to be a part. Again, sad but true.

You will also notice these things because you are now focused on what is POSITIVE and you are now aware of what YOU can do to "weed out" the negativity that surrounds you every day.

Yes, even those that you have called "friends", those that you NEVER thought would talk about you in a negative way may very well begin to do so.

But you know what? YOU DON'T LIVE FOR THEM and the sooner you realize, understand, and accept that truth the more likely it will be that you will be able to move on toward your better and positive future!

Do NOT dwell on the, "Why are they doing that?" thoughts that will want to invade and take over your mind. Your mind cannot occupy negative and positive thoughts at the same time. You will find that, whichever you focus on the most will actually dominate your thought process.

YOU control that. No matter what goes on around you and no matter what "they" say or do, YOU are the one that controls the impact of such actions on your mind and your life.

My advice? RISE ABOVE and MOVE ON.

Yes, this definitely fits the "easier said than done" category but, friend, you CAN - and MUST - do this. Move on and don't look back.

And, as you do so, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

You Be YOU! (Everyone Else is Taken)

There is no one else like you. Period. There never HAS been anyone like you and there never WILL BE anyone like you. Ever.

Wow! Let that sink in for a moment.

You are, indeed, one-of-a-kind and, yes, you are UNIQUE!

That being said - and is a FACT - why compare yourself to anyone else or why try to be LIKE someone else?

I understand having a mentor or a "hero" that you want to emulate or "be like", but don't try to be a "carbon copy" of that person. You simply cannot! We'll talk more about this in the next topic but, don't even try to COMPARE yourself to anyone else - there is no need!

Your finger prints identify YOU and no one else! Again, with that being true, don't you think (as well as believe and understand) that your MIND also is unique and that no one actually thinks about things and approaches things exactly the way that you do? They don't - they CAN'T!

So, take your unique talents and abilities, find your passion and your purpose as we discussed in the last article, and you go out and make a positive and powerful impact on your world

Only YOU can do that the way that YOU can do that!

And, as you do so, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Find the Good!

About a week before this article I did another one on the need to "Stay Positive". In that article I talked about how, at times, I almost have to make a "game" out of finding SOMETHING positive to focus on during some days because of the abundance of negativity that seems to surround me. And, I know that many of you can relate to what I'm saying on that.

In similar fashion, you may have to do the same when it comes to "finding the good" in some days. I love what the phrase that you see posted above states about that: "Every day may not be good, BUT, there is SOMETHING good in every day!"

One of the examples that I use in the podcast is that of a funeral. I think it would be easy to say that we'd all agree that such a day is NOT a good day! However, even in the midst of the sadness of such a day there is still something good that can achieved. Many times, in such a situation, family members get to visit with each other and catch up with each other. Often, some of these family members have not seen each other in years. Some even feel a little guilty when they find themselves laughing and smiling while sharing some fond (and often, funny) memories with those family members.
Hopefully you don't have to experience those situations very often but, chances are, you still do struggle with days that may not be considered "good" just because of some of the struggles and negativity that seems to fill that particular day. Hey, sometimes, at the end of the day, the GOOD thing that you find is that the day if is finally over! 😏

LIFE brings good days as well as what may be considered bad. One good thing about that fact is that, even when you are experiencing those "not-so-good" days it points out the fact that you are ALIVE and that you are experiencing life! That, my friend, is a GOOD thing!

One of the reasons that I spend time doing these podcasts and writing these blog articles is so that I can better equip myself (and you as well) to face and handle those times that are a bit of a struggle. There are times that I can "see" that I've improved in handling those situations better than before. That's a good thing.

Make sense?

This is all part of "improving your mindset". Yes, some times it is VERY difficult to do and sometimes you just sit and "scratch your head" trying to find something GOOD in every day but, friend, it's there. Open your eyes and your mind and discover the GOOD even in a day that is NOT so good.

(Aren't you glad I didn't use that worn out saying about turning lemons into lemonade?)

Until next time, friend, whatever you do, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Be SO Positive That...

From time to time I'll have people say to me, "Mike, I understand the importance of being positive but I just don't know how to do that when I'm surrounded by so much negativity!"

Anyone else relate to that? I DO!

First of all, let me ask you this: WHERE IS YOUR FOCUS? Let me explain what I mean.

Have you ever bought a certain "brand" of automobile and then, all of a sudden (so it seems), you notice how many other cars of this same brand are on the road? All of a sudden (so it seems), they are EVERYWHERE

The fact is, there are no more of these particular brands of automobile than there were before, but your FOCUS has changed to the point that you now NOTICE them more than before.

Does that example make sense? Now let me explain how that connects to the negativity that surrounds us each and every day.

I don't deny the fact that there are many negative people around us. Seriously, they seem (at times) to be EVERYWHERE! This becomes increasingly difficult if you find that a lot of that negativity comes from others under your own roof (from those in your family).

But, do you think it's possible to change our focus to where, even though that negativity still exists, we don't notice it as much as we once did but, instead, we begin to notice that - HEY - there are also a lot of POSITIVE attitudes around us?

Now, I can't tell you whether you think it's possible or not, but I CAN tell you that it IS possible to change your FOCUS to where you begin to notice the POSITIVE more than you do the negative.

(By the way, this article is really very different than the podcast that I have on this same topic. So, you need to be sure to listen to it by clicking HERE or by clicking HERE.)

And, friend, the way that it begins is by doing exactly what you are doing right this very moment. That's right! Continue to immerse yourself with as much positive information as possible and you will soon find that you are drawn to (and others are drawn to you) others with the same positive attitude as you. This will help you focus on the POSITIVE and pay less attention to the negative.

Listen, there are many others out there JUST LIKE YOU! That's right, there are many others that are seeking to increase the positive influence in their own life and they are looking for YOU! And then, guess what? When there are two of you combining "forces" you will find that you will attract others as a result.

Will you rid your life of all negativity. NO.

But, you WILL begin to focus less on the negativity around you and it will have less and less effect on you and your life.

I want you to pay close attention to this FACT: It is IMPOSSIBLE for a positive attitude and a negative attitude to co-exist. One will "win out" over the other, sooner or later.

So, if you are in a situation where those close to you (spouse, family, close friend) have a negative attitude, DO NOT GIVE UP! Surround yourself with other positive people (like I describe above) and continue to immerse yourself with positive information (like you're doing now and like you will do when you listen to the podcast) and, if you stick with it, you will begin to see that YOUR positive influence will begin to "snuff out" the negative influences around you.

Easier said than done? YOU BET!

But it CAN be done and YOU CAN DO IT, friend!

I'd love to connect with you and encourage you directly so please feel free to connect with me via my fan page on Facebook by CLICKING HERE

Again, whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP! There are many that are waiting for YOUR positive influence to impact their lives in a powerful way. And, you will likely never know how many people you touched and whose lives you helped change for the better!

Be sure to check back for my next article coming soon. Until then, whatever you do, always be sure to...

What Is Your RESPONSE?

E + R = O
Event + Response = Outcome

The "formula" or "equation" that you find listed above, comes from Jack Canfield and the meaning for each of the letters of the formula are listed below the equation.

Be sure to listen to the podcast (links found below) to hear more information that can be found ONLY on the podcast. I do thank you for reading this blog, HOWEVER, reading the blog and NOT listening to the podcast is like eating just half of your meal. Make sense?

What you'll find here is the basic idea behind Mr. Canfield's formula...and it's TRUE. Follow through and you'll soon understand that, indeed (although not always easy), it IS the truth.

1. EVENT - You and I cannot control the event - ANY event - that comes our way. The event is simply, "what happens" throughout the course of the day. An event may be good or it may even be considered bad. The event is what it is. I know that wording it this way may be a bit confusing, so I'll try to clarify this a little bit.
We ALL encounter "events" in our lives and, in each and every day. We cannot "change" or "direct" an event...we experience the event. An event may be something as simple as experiencing a good meal as part of your day or having a nice conversation with a co-worker or friend. It could also be something less enjoyable like having a flat tire on your way into the office or even getting involved in a minor "fender-bender". And, yes, there are "bigger" events that come our way that have a bit more impact (either positive or negative) on our lives. It could be a great new job or promotion while, on the other hand, it may be the loss of a job due to a layoff or even getting fired.  It could be the birth of a new child or the death of a spouse or other family member.

2. RESPONSE - If you take a closer look at the image above, you will see that I have written the words, "The one I control!", underneath the equation. You see, as I have already said, an event is an event and we cannot influence that event one way or the other. HOWEVER, it is our RESPONSE to that event that will determine the outcome that follows that event.
Hey, listen, I understand that this part of the formula takes quite a bit of discipline at times.  It's not always easy to RESPOND in a positive way to a negative event. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying that we should smile and say, "No worries", when a tragedy comes our way. Not at all.
But, your response to that tragedy, for example, will determine the ultimate outcome from that tragic event. For example, you may experience the death of a loved one...maybe even your spouse or a child. I've not experienced either but I have worked closely with those that have experienced both and I can't even imagine how difficult that must be. You can either allow devastation and depression to overtake you to the point that you become of no use to anyone - including yourself. If you have children, for example, they need you to help them through the tragedy as well but, if your RESPONSE takes you away from the life that must continue, then the outcome will not be very positive.
Yet, as difficult as it may be, you may determine that you must keep on living and, as part of that task, you must continue to be a parent to your children and help them deal with the same tragedy with which you must deal. You may determine to be appreciative for the time that you had with your spouse and, as painful as it may be, you find a way to smile when those memories come across your mind. This is your chosen RESPONSE
We CHOOSE our response. You may have heard others say, or you may have even said, "They make me so mad!" or "They ruined my day!". Neither of those statements are true. You made a choice and, in those examples, you CHOSE to allow that person to determine your outcome.
I've seen examples where a person allowed others to "impact" his response to the point that this person became miserable at the workplace.
Originally, he was happy to be there and enjoyed his work. However, over time, he allowed the negativity that you find at most work environments to affect his response in a negative way. He began to "give in" to the negative thoughts and, as a result, his RESPONSE was to be negative. He began to gripe and complain and, eventually, lost his job due to his negative attitude.
     I was that person.

3. OUTCOME - In one of my recent blog articles entitled, "Don't Quit & No Excuses!" , I make the statement that, more often than not, when someone quits something (or gets fired, for example) they will pretty much ALWAYS make excuses as to why that happened. They will make an EXCUSE as to why they experienced the OUTCOME that they did. Yet, the truth is, they received the OUTCOME that they did due to their RESPONSE to the events that they encountered on a daily basis.
In the example above, I had allowed myself to be influenced by the negativity around me. I MADE A CHOICE about my response to the negativity (the events) around me. And, it cost me in a lot of ways.
This was quite a few years before I really began to concentrate on turning things around concerning my mindset and the direction of my life. But, it did stick with me and I did not like how I had changed during my time at that job. Even then, I knew I had failed by allowing others to have the impact on me instead of me using my influence on them. Thankfully, I later began to make better decisions / responses based on what I was putting into "the library of my mind".

How do you feel about the outcomes that you are experiencing in your life? Are you satisfied with them? Some people are satisfied with SOME of the outcomes, but most people feel that they would prefer better outcomes more often.

Jim Rohn put it this way (and I paraphrase): "If you don't like where you are or what you are doing - MOVE! MAKE A CHANGE! You are not a tree...YOU have the ability to MOVE!"

It takes discipline and discipline requires patience and determination. How bad do YOU want better outcomes in and for your life?

Here's the final thought on this: Consider the fact that you read this article as one of the EVENTS for your day.  Now then, what's your RESPONSE? Will you just read it and walk away or will you allow it to sink in and and influence you in a positive way to become more disciplined with your responses to the events that come your way?

As always, the choice is yours. So, what will YOU do?

If you haven't done so yet, you need to listen to the podcast on today's topic. Just click one of the links at the bottom of this article to do so. There is SO MUCH MORE information and additional thoughts that I share with you there that is not found in this article.

Promote the POSITIVE!

In a world full of negativity, why would you EVER want to promote ANYTHING but positive influence? Whether it be thoughts, spoken or written words or even posts on your preferred social media outlet...why would you want to do anything else?

Many of us would like to think that we would never participate or promote anything of a negative nature yet, many of us do just that.

Would you like to do a little experiment? Check your posts on your preferred social media page over the past few months Seriously, take the time to take a look and see what you find.

I have been guilty as well...especially during the recent mid-term elections in the political arena. I like to think that I caught myself on this and backed off on such activity and I hope that, if you find that you have promoted negative thoughts and ideas, you'll do the same.

This really came to the forefront for me just yesterday. A "connection" of mine on my personal social media page posted a video that did nothing but promote continued hype that is so prevalent in our media at this time. Instead of promoting positive information (or even just refraining from ANY additional input on the topic), they chose to add to the negativity surrounding this hyped up topic.

I don't need or want to see or read this type of negativity and I sure don't want it on my social media page for others to see or read so I "got rid of them", which prohibited them from posting anything further on my page.

Extreme action? Some might think so but, for me, it demonstrates how serious I am about such negativity.

Here's the simple message for today, friend: PROMOTE THE POSITIVE and leave the rest alone.

This applies on your social media pages as well as your workplace, your relationship with your friends and, yes, even your family.

Try this approach this week and see what happens.

Determine - beginning today, for a week - that you will not promote, repeat or share ANYTHING that is negative in any way.

You will find that this is more difficult than you might first imagine but, it can be done. It's a challenge that you CAN face and achieve.

You will find other helpful aides as you go through the rest of this week reading the coming blog articles as well as listening to the podcasts. (I'm changing to a Monday, Wednesday and Friday format now).

Friend, the world needs you to do this and show others that it can be done.

Start NOW and check your progress at the end of the day.

Until next time, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

Surround Yourself With the Positive

- graphic from Dave Ramsey -

Sooner or later you will find the words in the above graphic to be true.

No matter how much you want them to NOT be true or no matter how much you don't want to believe this to be true about the people that surround you...it is still true.

Negativity can disguise itself in all kinds of ways, too! Sometimes the most "negative" people are disguised in friendship and "I only want what's best for you" thoughts. It's around us each and every day and we must do all that we can to surround ourselves with the positive...people and/or thoughts.

Sometimes this is difficult to do when you are surrounded by negative people...like at work. However, if you determine to be the "thermostat" and not the "thermometer" you may find that the negativity begins to disappear.

What do I mean?

A thermostat DICTATES the temperature in a room. It either raises or lowers the temperature in the room while the termometer REFLECTS the temperature that has been set by the thermostat.

There are "thermometer people" all around us and you may be one as well. These are the people that "reflect" whatever the attitude around them may be. If people around them are happy then they are more likely to be happy (even though truly negative people are negative regardless of their surroundings). If the mood around them is negative, "thermometer people" will likely just follow along and have the same negative attitude.

You, however, could be a "thermostat" person that helps dictate or "set the temperature" for your workplace. You may be surprised at how quickly the "temperature" of the room begins to change due to your positive attitude!

And remember, your positive attitude comes from - or is aided by - the positive information that you put into your heart and mind throughout the day. Things such as this blog and my podcast are examples of information that you can absorb each and every day that will help you in this process.

Hey, even if you haven't reached the goals that you set for yourself this year, remain POSITIVE in your approach and your review of the past year. Your positive attitude will allow you to understand that, again, progress is progress, even if it is slower than you initially planned.

Thermostat or thermometer? You decide.

And, as you do so, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

5th of 8 Things to Give Up

We know begin to address the second half of the "8 Things to Give Up". The first question that I must ask you is this: How has your ATTITUDE been toward the things that have been discussed up to this point?

Attitude? Absolutely.

Chances are, you have had some sort of negative thoughts about some - if not all - of the points that we have covered so far. Why do I say that? Simple...those who are OPEN to change and improvement in their lives will usually find that they are looking at TRUTH and that, even though it is difficult to accept, it is of key importance to take action ANYWAY!

Those who aer NOT open to change and improvement in their lives will usually find excuses as to why action does not need to be taken. They will try to disguise these excuses by being critical of the process. "EVERYBODY doubts themselves at some point in time. That doesn't mean anything!" or "These are really STUPID examples given. Everyone I know deals with these things...why should I be any different?"

You simply can not give up that which you refuse to admit to have in the first place, right?

And, the longer you decide to hang on to these types of attitudes, the more likely you will find that you are attaching stronger and stronger "chains" to these attitudes in your life. Those "chains" will not only make it more difficult to rid yourself OF those attitudes, they will also weigh you down and make it difficult to function in a healthy and positive way in ANY relationship!

So, what's the difference between NEGATIVE THINKING and NEGATIVE SELF-TALK?

Good question!
I would suggest to you that negative thinking is a "general" mindset in which you tend to be negative about anything and everything. Negative self-talk is when you have begun to direct that negativity to yourself and have now made it personal. For example, negative thinking might be expressed with: "This place is horrible!" and negative self-talk would be more like: "I am horrible for not knowing better than to come here! What is wrong with me?!". Negative thinking might say: "This is an ugly outfit/dress/suit!" and negative self-talk would redirect it this way: "That outfit/dress/suit is not too bad but I look ugly in it!" or "I make it look horrible!".
See the difference?

------------------------------------ADVERTISEMENT FROM MIKE------------------------------
There is not much to FEAR with a "one-time" start up payment of only $18!
And, I do mean "one-time"...no further payments and no monthly charges out of your pocket!
And, what if the POTENTIAL with that small, start up cost was incredible?
and find out for yourself!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Negative self-talk could lead to self-loathing and self-hatred. BOTH of these are very dangerous and damaging to a person and it is KEY that you snap out of this one and give it up as soon as possible!

Negative self-talk tends to put the blame for EVERYTHING that is wrong (or perceived so through your eyes) on YOU! Hey, maybe that outfit/dress/suit actually IS ugly and it has nothing to do with you! Have you not noticed that much of so-called "fashion" is actually quite hideous, REGARDLESS of how beautiful the person is that wears the outfit?

Too, this type of self-talk really begins to take on the characteristics of SELF-CENTEREDNESS. (Ouch!)

That's right - self-centeredness. The world begins to (and likely has for quite some time for you) revolve around you and you begin to focus EVERYTHING - now mostly all of the "bad" things" - on yourself as if YOU are the one that is responsible for all that is "unfit" for this world.

Stop it! That's right, I said STOP IT!

I'm going to spend a short moment more on this and then I'm going to wrap this discussion up for now. PAY ATTENTION - THIS IS IMPORTANT! When you begin to sink into the world of "negative self-talk" and you become further involved to the point of thinking everything (good or bad) revolves around you, then you become SELFISH to the point that no one else matters. LISTEN UP! There's a lot more I could say about what I'm about to say, but let me just say it this way for today's article - suicide is a very SELFISH act! Again, I could discuss this a lot further, but not today because I want to get your attention here. When you begin to become so involved in negative self-talk that leads to criticising yourself and blaming yourself for anything and everything, then you also begin to run the risk of being so focused on YOU that you begin to think it's all about YOU! When that happens it is also very easy to forget your connection to your world around you (family, friends and others that love and care about you) and you begin to even believe that the world is better off without a person like you.

Can you see the dangerous path? (Be sure to listen to the podcast on this for more thoughts).

STOP IT and GIVE IT UP! Get whatever help you need to do so but PLEASE understand that this can take you down a path that you never thought possible.

Go back and re-read the past few articles or, if you haven't read them yet, DO IT NOW, and begin to absorb a little "good news" about yourself, o.k.?

Yes, it IS that important. Do NOT believe the lies of doubt and negative thinking and do not allow them to go any further in your life. The quicker you give it up, the sooner you will begin to experience improvement in your overall attitude and outlook on your life.

And, as you do so, do all that you can to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

4th of 8 Things to Give Up

"Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving." - Dale Carnegie

Hey friend, that quote applies to criticism of YOURSELF as well! You must learn to be "understanding and forgiving" of yourself as well as others. Bottom line is this: CRITICIZING YOURSELF AND OTHERS is another thing that you need to give up!

As I've pointed out before, all of these things work together and feed off of each other. These are ALL results of negative thinking so, if you are going to pick ONE to work on removing from your life first, THAT would be the one..."negative thinking".

YOU define what "success" means for you in your life. Whatever it is that you determine "success" to be, you will NEVER reach it as long as you hang on to these things that we have been discussing.

I want to make sure that you are getting the point: READING THIS BLOG as well as LISTENING TO THE PODCAST will DEFINITELY help you battle negative thinking and what comes from that type of mindset!

THAT IS A FACT!

------------------------------------ADVERTISEMENT FROM MIKE------------------------------
There is not much to FEAR with a "one-time" start up payment of only $18!
And, I do mean "one-time"...no further payments and no monthly charges out of your pocket!
And, what if the POTENTIAL with that small, start up cost was incredible?
and find out for yourself!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you allow yourself to not only listen to, but believe criticism from others to the point that you begin to repeat it to yourself, you are doing yourself a great disservice and you are giving even more power to anyone that criticizes you. Read that sentence again - slowly - and let it sink in.

Remember, you are special and you are here - on this earth - for a REASON! Also remember: "God Does NOT Make Junk!" and you are of great value.

I can do all I can to help you by stating facts like this over and over again but, friend, YOU are the one that must begin to "walk" in this belief and to begin to "live" in this belief.

So, as far as criticism is concerned (whether of yourself or others), just give it up.

And, as you continue on this journey, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

2nd of 8 Things to Give Up

Is doubting yourself a result of negative thinking or is negative thinking a result of doubting yourself?  I would suggest that they feed off of each other and that they will continue to do so - and, likely grow and increase - until you decide to do something about it by giving them up.

For today's thoughts on giving up negative thinking, we must first of all realize that we are all SURROUNDED by negative thinking. It's literally everywhere. If you are around people and/or watch any television "news" at all then you are "pounded" by negative thinking every day.

What passes for "news" is hardly news at all. If you really pay attention to what is part of the evening "news", you will discover that the majority of it is actually commentary and opinion. In our modern world, you will also find "news" from every corner of the world and involving every thing that happens anywhere and every where.

Have you noticed that some people (more than you may have even realized) just seem to be focused on EVERYTHING that is wrong with EVERYTHING?

Listen - let's make this short and to the point - the ONLY way that you will be able to "give up" negative thinking is to STOP LISTENING to all of the negativity that surrounds you AND to replace it with as much POSITIVE information (like this and the podcast) as possible.

It is not enough to just REMOVE the negativity. You must REPLACE it with something positive.

You must be determined to PROTECT your mindset from all of the negativity and DEVELOP a positive mindset. It's not always easy (go back and see the quote in the last article about "easier said than done") and it may take some time but, you must realize (and decide for yourself) that this is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE!

You can do it but you must be proactive in the process. Allow YOUR positive attitude to surround you and watch what happens to the attitudes of those around you. HINT: It will likely begin to turn positive as well.

Come on...give it up. Who really wants to hang on to negative thinking? Honestly, some do, but not YOU!

Surround Yourself With Better People

At some point in time, if you are SERIOUS about improving your mindset and doing all that you can to eliminate as much negativity from you life as possible...you're going to have to make choices.

And, yes, those choices will - and MUST - include those with whom you spend your time.

No matter how hard you try or no matter how hard you think you need any particular relationship, you will have to make a choice as to whether or not that person actually helps you in your desire for a more positive mindset or hinders you in that pursuit.

Go ahead and try it, friend...it simply will not work if you attempt to stay connected to negative and dramatic people.

As the graphic states: "The only way to get better is to surround yourself with better people."

"Oh, but I can't!" Again, it's a choice and it's YOUR choice but it is a choice that will have to be made sooner or later.

Just some advice here...the longer you wait the more you will realize that you have wasted valuable time and energy hanigng on to something that was not actually worth hanging on to.

That kind of hurts, doesn't it? However, you will find this to be true and the stronger will be your regret wishing that you had made the change sooner.

Hey listen, we ALL have our "bad" (negative) moments. Don't take this to say that you must remove yourself from anyone that has negative thoughts and/or words EVER in their life.

You'll live your life as a loner by doing so.

I am talking about those that continually criticize and/or mock you for daring to reach for your goals and dreams and to NEVER give up regardless of what you can "see" at the moment. I'm talking about those people who spend so much of their time watching the news that they must share with you and anyone else that will listen, every negative and horrible thing that is going on in the world. I 'm talking about the people who are always whining and complaining about SOMETHING. I'm talking about those people who always whine and complain about what they DON'T have and/or about what is WRONG in and with their life and yet, aren't willing to do anything about it.

Yeah, THOSE people.

I bet you have some of those in your life, don't you? I bet you pictured some particular people as you read through that list of descriptions, didn't you?

Another word of advice...don't think that you can be "the one" that can help change them. No sir, don't do it....they will drag you down more often than you being able to lift them up.

It's hard. It's difficult. But friend...it is necessary and it is a fact: "The only way to get better is to surround yourself with better people."

Tomorrow we'll discuss some possible ways to make that happen. Be thinking and brainstorming yourself between now and then. I'd love to hear YOUR ideas on this.

Until then, whatever you do, always be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

What Are YOU Creating?

How do you feel?

Really, how do you feel? Do you feel stressed out all of the time? Are you uptight? Anxious?

Is there a feeling of frustration and/or fear prevalent in your life? Are you overwhelmed with the feeling that our world is doomed for destruction?

Do you feel peaceful? Relaxed? Do you rest easily and do you rest well?

Now then, are you ready?
WHAT TYPE OF THINGS DO YOU POST ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA?

Are you one that constantly posts or reposts "news" reports of horrible things that happen all around the world? Are you one that constantly posts or reposts videos or articles that lambaste "the other side" from your political viewpoint?

Are you one that posts/reposts good, happy, thoughtful graphics and/or videos? Are you one that posts/reposts thoughts and phrases that will encourage and uplift those that read what you post?

What are YOU creating?

That's right...either way, YOU are "creating" the feelings, emotions and reactions in your life!

"What you sow, you will reap" or "You reap what you sow" fits this perfectly and so does "the Law of Attraction".

What is referred to as "the Law of Attraction" shares the exact same principle as "sowing and reaping" in that it states the following: That which you send out is what will come back to you. If you send out negativity then, guess what? Negativity will come back to you and fill your life. If you send out positivity then yup, you got it, you life will receive and be filled with that which is positive.

This was talked about quite a bit at the training that I attended with Dani Johnson (www.DaniJohnson.com) last weekend. I didn't do a blog or podcast while I was gone and I really wanted to put some thought into what my first article would be once I got back on track.

The answer basically "slapped me in the face" when I opened up my Facebook yesterday and noticed - it just jumped out at me - how many "negative" posts filled my page. WOW!

Hey, let me be the first to admit that I've joined in on some of this in the past. I've really tried to curtail that and control my participation in that type of activity lately and I think I've done fairly well.

THINK ABOUT THIS: Not only does it send a negative feeling/emotion to those that read it/watch it/absorb it but it also puts that same negativity into your own mind and soul.

Is that what you really want for you life and is it really what you want to dump on someone else?

We can try to justify it all we want but, friend, let's get real - NO ONE NEEDS THAT!

All that you have is TODAY ("As long as there is breath, there is hope!").  Why not use today and all of the avenues you have to reach out and touch the lives of others for GOOD? Why not share as much POSITIVE information and as many POSITIVE words to those that you may touch instead of negative sludge?

I've dedicated myself to getting rid of this in my own life. Will you join me? Will YOU determine to stop poisoning YOUR life as well as the life of those with which you come into contact?

What you SOW is what you will REAP and what you SEND OUT is what will COME BACK to you.

I hope that you will share this with as many people as you can and that you'll also listen to the podcast (link below) and also share it with as many as you can.

I also hope that you'll take the time to go to my Future You University page on FB (link below) and leave a comment about this there.

It's time for a change, wouldn't you agree? Then let's start NOW, TODAY.

And as you do so, be sure to...

What Will Be Your "Harvest"?

What kind of seed do you plant if you want an apple tree? Corn? Of course not, if you plant corn, you will get corn. If you want to get an apple tree, you plant an apple seed, right?

SIMPLE.

So it is with what we wish to "harvest" in and with our lives, friend.

As always, the choice is mine and yours. It is our choice as to what we plant but, know this: we will reap (harvest) what we sow (plant).

Notice the quote above from Earl Nightingale: "Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality."

What is our subconscious mind? I came up with this analogy in the podcast and I think it's pretty good and easy to understand. Have you ever been around a young child that was learning to talk? You don't think much about what you say because this child has not been talking and you have not been made aware of what the child is actually hearing. And then, one day, the child repeats something back that you have said and you are shocked and embarrassed! The child has simply repeated what it has heard. The child does not understand the meaning or the intent behind the words.

So it is with your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind will pick up whatever you say and do - good or bad and will repeat it back to you. YIKES!

This is really not that hard to understand but it IS hard to change and it is hard to stay consistent (repetitious) with as well.

If you plant negativity into your subconscious mind and you nourish that "seed" with repetition, day in and day out, and emotion (anger, frustration, depression, hopelessness), then your harvest will BE a life of this negativity. You can't expect a peaceful life by planting and nourishing negativity.

The other side of the issue is true as well. I say on my podcast everyday that I believe that "Your greatest education takes place on the campus of your mind." It is of key importance that we all do everything within our power to plant nothing but good and positive thoughts into our subconscious mind.

When we plant that good seed and we nourish or water that seed repeatedly and with the emotions that go along with that seed (peace, happiness, joy) then we will reap the benefits of a life of peace, happiness and joy. Such is the harvest from this kind of seed!

So, again, it is up to you! Don't get upset when you plant squash and you get squash. Don't get upset when you plant negative thoughts and feelings and that is what you receive in the "harvest".

I'm here to help as much as I can with this blog and the podcast. Fill your mind - plant as much as you can - of this kind of "seed" and see what kind of fruit comes from such activity.

Get busy "farmer"!

And, as you do so, be sure to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"

When Is the Sky NOT Falling?

It's been a couple of weeks now but the most recent example of this "craziness" was exemplified with hurricane Isaac. Most people across the U.S. experienced big hikes in gas prices because of this mentality. Prices jumped 12 cents per gallon in one location we passed all in the matter of two hours. Really? Was this necessary?

I made sure watched the news that night so I could see what the "reason" was behind this "sky is falling" activity and everything I heard confirmed that, indeed, it was all hysteria over things that didn't amount to much. Hurricane Isaac never reached anything above a level 1 category yet the hysteria was as if it were a level 4 storm! The refineries had shut down in some areas along the Gulf Coast during the storm and this drove the thought that there might be gas shortages. The interesting thing was that the reports also indicated that this area only provided about 22% of the U.S. gas supply.

Think about it... only 22% and the hysteria at the pump as almost as high as it was back on September 11,2001 when the Twin Towers were hit in a terrorist attack.

My point? DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE!

News is driven by hype, hysteria, fear and drama!

Now here's the BIG question for you to consider...does this also describe what drives YOUR life?

I hope not! It's easy to get caught up in this type of drama even on a daily basis and that is why is is so important for us to surround ourselves with positive people as much as possible! Yes, I understand that this is not always possible but that is why it is even more important to do so when we can!

The more we can surround ourselves with POSITIVE influences the more it will help "protect" us from the hysteria, drama and fear that comes with this "sky is falling" attitude.

Gas prices? I still hear on an almost daily basis how different "experts" are predicting gas to be at one high price or another. You know what? I've been hearing it for a long time and it has yet to come to be - and I do mean YEARS when I say "for a long time".

It's your choice but, honestly, there are better ways to get in shape rather than constantly JUMPING to conclusions and RUNNING AROUND like a chicken with it's head cut off yelling, "THE SKY IS FALLING!".

Think about it and, as you do, be sure to...

Make Today AWESOME!

Today is "Magical Monday"...Take advantage of YOUR magic today!

If you've read my blog for very long and if you've listened to my podcast for very long then you already know my "catch phrase" which is, "Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)".

I've mentioned in the past that I was very specific in the wording of this catch phrase and the meaning behind it. Let me touch on that once again before I get into the discussion on the first half of this phrase.

Too many people "settle" for the idea of "HAVING" a nice day. Think about it. How many times do you hear people say - or YOU say to another - "have a nice day!". Now, don't get me wrong! It's polite and it's nice but, I began to look at it as something you just "settle" for - HAVING a nice day. I don't know really how to explain it, but it's like, "Here....have this" and us, on this end saying, "Well, o.k...I guess I'll HAVE a nice day if you're offering it to me." Now, again, don't get upset with me on this if you say, "have a nice day" - NO BIGGIE.
However, I wanted to rephrase it in such a way that it emphasized the part that WE all play in the direction of our days - EVERY DAY! So, a few years back I came up with my catch phrase. Now you know if you didn't already. Now, THAT ALONE made this worthwhile, right? (Yeah, I'm smiling when I say that).

Seriously though, STOP WAITING for someone to bring the "magic" (yeah, Magical Monday, remember?) to your life, to your day and MAKE IT HAPPEN yourself! You've heard me say it or read it when I've written it - it's ALL a CHOICE!

I've also said this before - don't let the fact that I'm making this so simple cause you to skip over this. "Sometimes the PROFOUND can be FOUND in the simple!"

Who are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? Who are you waiting on? What are you waiting on? While you keep standing around WAITING the world is passing you by! The WORLD that is full of WONDER and all kinds of things and people that can TRULY create a sense of AWE in your day.

Be sure to listen to the podcast that goes along with this topic (iTunes - http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/mike-spillmans-future-you/id423660739 or the RSS feed - http://mikespillman.hipcast.com/rss/futureyouuniversity.xml ).

Hey friend, would you do me a favor? If you find value/benefit in this blog and/or my podcast, would you please share them with someone? I'd appreciate it and I say, "Thank you!" in advance.

Today IS "magical" and today IS full of all kinds of awe-inspiring things ... things that will truly make your day AWESOME.

Wait a minute, I thought you said NOTHING can make it awesome for me? Nothing did. YOU did when you decided to open your eyes and take it all in!

Keep looking and absorbing and enjoying and, as you do so, continue to...

"Make it an AWESOME day! (Who else is going to do it for you?)"
